Test Your Internet Speed at CWA Website and Compare it with Broadband Speed in Other Countries

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) recently launched a new website that enables one to check internet connection speed and compare it with average speeds in New York and with internet speeds in other countries. According to CWA:
The United States - the country that invented the Internet - has fallen from 1st to 15th in high-speed Internet penetration. High-tech innovation, job growth, telemedicine, distance learning, rural development, public safety, e-government and solutions to our environmental problems require truly high-speed, universal networks.

**** We are falling behind because the United States is the only industrialized country without a national policy to promote universal, affordable high speed Internet access. Instead, we have relied on fragmented government programs and uneven private sector responses to changing markets, leaving us with an alarming digital divide.
